At this time, Allina Health and The Mother Baby Center may have temporarily suspended water births at specific locations.
A water birth is the process of giving birth while immersed in a tub of water. Water birth is available to women who meet certain criteria and sign consent forms that are provided to health care providers and midwives.
During labor, the mother is in a cushioned tub of warm water that can help her relax and manage pain. This tub is larger and deeper than a regular bathtub and is deep enough for water to cover the mother’s abdomen. Water birth deliveries occur in a caring environment and are supported by an experienced team specially trained in water births.
