While we are not offering scheduled tours at this time, our virtual tour videos are a great alternative to see everything our birthing centers have to offer.
Getting here
In an emergency, you should always call 9-1-1.
For non-emergency medical transportation, call Allina Health emergency medical services at 651-222-0555.

A dedicated entrance to The Mother Baby Center is located at 902 East 26th Street Minneapolis, MN 55404, between 10th Avenue S and Chicago Avenue.
Expecting moms can be dropped off at the main entrance, where there will be a concierge who can direct them to the check-in desk on the third floor.
The main entrance to The Mother Baby Center is open:
Monday – Saturday: 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Sunday: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
After hours, pull up to the main entrance and use the phone to access Security. They will immediately let you in. Proceed to the third floor of The Mother Baby Center.
Once you pull into The Mother Baby Center, you can follow the roundabout to the main entrance for drop off, or you can park in the Blue/26th Street visitor ramp (to the right of the main entrance).
Families and visitors may park in the Blue/26th Street visitor ramp adjacent to The Mother Baby Center. From there, take the South elevators to the first floor and walk outside to the main entrance.
Discount ramp exit tickets and temporary parking permits are available to purchase at the Children’s Minnesota cashier on the second floor or at Abbott Northwestern’s valet parking office, located in the main entrance lobby. Hours are Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Minneapolis Anesthesia Partners is proud to be designated as a Society for Obstetric Anesthesia and Perinatology Center of Excellence (COE). Minneapolis Anesthesia Partners provides anesthesia care at The Mother Baby Center at Abbott Northwestern and Children’s Minnesota.

The Mother Baby Center at Abbott Northwestern and Children’s Minnesota provides the following amenities to ensure a comfortable, warm, and calm environment for your delivery:
- Television
- DVD player
- Wi-Fi access
- iPod® doc (compatible with iPods and older iPhones. Newer iPhones or other equipment will require an adaptor or other audio equipment)
- A fold-out couch or recliner available for your partner
- A luggage cart with lockable safe that holds all of your belongings and moves with you from room to room
- Private bathroom with a shower or a tub/shower combination
- A small refrigerator (no freezer)

We have the following spaces that allow family members and friends to participate while still giving baby and parents the time and privacy they need to bond as well:
Celebration Plaza
A gathering and waiting area for patients, families and visitors, the Celebration Plaza has a child’s play area and beautiful interactive pieces of art to keep your little ones entertained.
Large waiting and relaxation areas are on the second and fourth floors of The Mother Baby Center.
Interfaith chapel
An interfaith chapel is located on the first floor at Children’s Minnesota, and the interfaith Ewe Memorial Chapel is located on the first floor at Abbott Northwestern. Chaplains are available to support the special spiritual needs of patients and families.

Healing Garden
Open to the public, the Healing Garden is located outside the entryway of the Children’s Minnesota Specialty Center on the corner of Chicago Avenue and 26th Street. The Healing Garden contains a family of animals created out of Minnesota granite. The forms are smooth and rounded like large beach stones with textured areas inviting children and adults to touch, hug, play, and interact.

Other outside spaces have bike racks, outdoor games, and benches for visitors and guests.
Should you choose to bring a patient a gift, the following gift shops are on site at The Mother Baby Center:
Storybook Gift Shop – Children’s Minnesota
Storybook Gift Shop, located in the second floor skyway at Children’s Minnesota, sells toys, balloons, books, cards, gifts and personal items. All profits are donated to programs and services at Children’s Minnesota.
Storybook Gift Shop hours:
- Monday-Thursday: 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Friday: 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
- Saturday: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- Sunday: 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The Gift Shop at Abbott Northwestern
The Gift Shop offers a large selection of cards, stuffed toys, balloons, fresh flowers, paperback books, baby items, candies and more. It is located across the street from The Mother Baby Center in the Courage Kenny lobby of Abbott Northwestern.
The Gift Shop hours:
- Monday-Friday: 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Saturday: Closed
- Sunday: Closed

Marketplace – Children’s Minnesota
Marketplace is a convenience store on the second floor of the Children’s Minnesota Specialty Center. It offers basic sundries, food, logo wear, infant and breastfeeding supplies, and other health-related products as well as retail pharmacy.
Marketplace hours:
- Monday-Friday: 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- Saturday & Sunday: 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

At Your Service
At Your Service is a personalized dining service in which patients can order their meals off a restaurant-style menu. Visitors and guests of patients may also order At Your Service meals delivered to the patient’s room. See the At Your Service card in the patient welcome packet for instructions and pricing.
Starz Café
Located on the first floor of Children’s Minnesota near the Welcome Center, the Starz Café provides a delicious deli, salad bar, hot entrées, dine-in or take-out.

Located on the second floor of Children’s Minnesota Specialty Center in Marketplace, Jazzman’s Café serves specialty coffee, tea, smoothies, pastries, soup, salad, and sandwiches.

Vending machines
Vending machines are located at The Mother Baby Center on the second floor and Children’s Minnesota on the first floor (between the Interfaith Chapel and Emergency Department) and on the lower level (near the hospital elevators).
Hospital cafeteria at Abbott Northwestern
The Abbott Northwestern cafeteria is located on the lower level of the lobby of the Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute and is accessible either by escalator or elevator during these hours:

The Mother Baby Center offers a convenient main entrance and drop-off location that is separate from United’s main entrance. Please use the dedicated entrance in front for dropping off expecting moms or visitors. You can also use this entrance after you’ve parked.
Expecting moms should check in at the Children’s Minnesota welcome desk. Then you will be directed to The Mother Baby Center entrance. Upon arrival, moms will be admitted and directed to the appropriate area.

The quiet room in The Mother Baby Center is a special, private space where families can gather for cultural celebrations, reflection and honor ceremonies. The quiet room is located on the first floor.

An interfaith chapel is located on the fourth floor at United Hospital and is always open for prayer and meditation. Chaplains are also available to support the special spiritual needs of patients and families.
Goff and Boysen Memorial and Honoring Garden
With a natural canopy formed by an ash tree and paths lined with flowers, shrubs and trees of various colors and fragrances, the Goff and Boysen Memorial and Honoring Garden at United Hospital offers a quiet place for meditation, reflection and remembrance.
Should you choose to bring a patient a gift, the following gift shop is on site at The Mother Baby Center:
The Gift Shop, located in United’s main lobby, is unlike any hospital gift shop you have ever seen. Patients, visitors, and hospital staff are surprised with unusual gifts, fabulous books, fun toys, non-traditional holiday items, and the most current trends in seasonal decorating. We also carry the usual items such as flowers, balloons, candy, cards, magazines, and toiletries. All proceeds benefit United Hospital.

- Saturday and Sunday: Noon to 3:45 p.m.

Breakaway Café
Located on the first floor of United adjacent to the Gift Shop and main lobby, the Breakaway Café is a full-service café with many options, including sauté skillet meals, freshly made pizza, made-to-order hot sandwiches, a full salad bar, entrée service line, and grill break.

At Your Request dining service is similar to hotel-style room service—patients order what they want to eat when they want it. Hospital guests can also enjoy At Your Request dining. Please refer to the menu in your room for meal prices.

The Children’s Minnesota Café

At only 33 weeks pregnant, Danielle was rushed to The Mother Baby Center at Mercy with Children’s Minnesota. She was then diagnosed with placental abruption and preeclampsia. She was rushed to the operating room (OR) and minutes later, she gave birth to her baby Freya.

The Mercy Gift Shop, located on the first floor of the hospital near the main east entrance features a wide selection of greeting cards, gift items, angels, jewelry, magazines, and other necessities. A beautiful selection of fresh-cut floral arrangements and seasonal gifts are available directly from the gift shop.

Mercy Hospital Cafeteria
Located on the first floor between the emergency department and the east lobby, the Mercy Hospital Cafeteria features a wide variety of delicious and healthful meal options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Weekly menus are posted at the cafeteria entrance, and ready-to-go salads, sandwiches, and other snacks are available between meal times. Credit cards are accepted. No checks.
