For pregnant women who are on the go, Allina Health now offers the award-winning manual Beginnings: Pregnancy, Birth & Beyond as an app. It can be downloaded from iTunes.
“Everyone is getting into technology so much. It’s a convenient time saver for our expectant mothers,” said Kathy Schoenbeck, RNC, director of the Birth Center at United Hospital. The app can help parents-to-be mentally prepare for delivery and parenting, she said.
The Beginnings app offers information you can trust about:
- what to expect during pregnancy
- how to prepare for labor
- what to expect during and after childbirth
- how to care for a newborn
There’s even a section just for dads and partners. You also can use your iPad, iPhone or iPod touch to follow your baby’s kicks and movements with the baby activity record, and time and track contractions with the labor log.
The app was developed with input from the Parent Advisory Council for the Birth Center at United Hospital. Its members include women who delivered babies at United, the largest hospital in the Twin Cities east metro. “The app benefited from lots of feedback and insight from parents on our Advisory Council,” said Schoenbeck.
