When Kristin Towle’s due date came and went with no baby on Jan. 31, she and her husband, Michael, began to wonder whether they’d be delivering at The Mother Baby Center.
The Twin Cities couple arrived at the Center around 9:30 a.m. on Feb. 4 – just a few hours after the doors opened to the new facility. By 11:20 a.m., their fourth child – a girl – arrived. Weighing 7 pounds, 6 ounces, Gemma became the first baby born at the Center. She was “caught” by midwife Kathrine Simon, of North Metro Midwives, through a water birth.
“[Gemma] was very happy when she came out. She didn’t really cry. She just was very calm, and it was very wonderful,” Kristin said.
On having the first baby at the Center, proud dad Michael said, “It’s pretty cool.”
Gemma joins two brothers (ages 4.5 and 3) and a sister (20 months).
