Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

Children's neonatal program is the fourth largest in the U.S., with more than 1,900 admissions per year. We care for more infants than any other neonatal program in the Upper Midwest.

Our survival rates are among the best in the world.

Our level III NICU is the highest-level NICU available. It specializes in caring for multiples, babies with congenital abnormalities, premature and tiny babies, and infants born with complex medical diagnoses.

A neonatologist is always available. Additional neonatal specialists, including neonatal nurse practitioners, respiratory therapists, specially educated nurses and unit-based pharmacists, care for newborns around the clock.

While their child is in the NICU, we encourage parents to participate in daily observations and treatments. Parents can even sleep in their child's room.

When their child is well enough to go home, we help parents follow up with their local health care provider to make sure their child receives long-term care.

It’s a fun and safe space that offers supervised childcare. The Sibling Play Area is designed to give family members a break with the comfort of knowing that siblings are receiving special attention, and enjoying themselves in a creative environment. Sibling Play Area is located on the second floor near the Welcome Center at Children’s. Open Monday – Saturday. Hours vary so please call 612-813-7051 to confirm.
