Midwest Fetal Care Center: What to expect when visiting
If your physician has a potential concern about your routine ultrasound results, they may refer you to the Midwest Fetal Care Center for further evaluation and treatment. Our multi-disciplinary team will:
- perform a full range of tests
- confirm your diagnosis
- discuss the prognosis
- begin to develop a plan of care
In many instances, we are able to share our findings with you at the end of your visit. Here are the steps you can expect to take.
Scheduling an Appointment
Your referring provider will complete a referral request to the Midwest Fetal Care Center. Once we receive and review your information, you will be contacted to schedule your appointment, typically within 48 hours.
You are always welcome to email or call and speak to one of our nurse care coordinators who can answer questions and address concerns.
Your initial visit may involve a full day of diagnostic testing. You are welcome to bring a friend or family member. You will be seen by one of our maternal fetal medicine specialists. He or she may also consult with other specialists as necessary, depending on your diagnosis. You may also have a neonatal consultation.
After we complete the necessary diagnostic tests, a member of the fetal team may meet with you to explain the results of your tests, as well as the effect the condition and treatment will have on your baby's delivery. We will recommend a delivery plan, a newborn care plan and explain near- and long-term outcomes. You will have the opportunity to ask questions and receive counseling. You will also tour The Mother Baby Center, the NICU and other areas as appropriate to your diagnosis.
Determining Next Steps
Most conditions are best treated after the baby is born. But in some circumstances, fetal invention or fetal surgery may be considered for life-threatening conditions. It is our goal to provide you and your family with the information you need to make an informed decision about your next steps and treatment.
At the Midwest Fetal Care Center, you will receive the best care possible from our specialists in maternal and fetal medicine as well as specialists in newborn and pediatric care, including neonatologists. Our team of doctors, nurses, ultrasonographers, genetic counselors and social workers work together to coordinate all aspects of your care from diagnosis to postoperative recovery and long-term follow-up.
