NICU Long-Term Follow-Up
Did you know that 40 percent of our neonatal patients are infants who are born at less than 27 weeks gestational age? These tiny babies often weigh less than 2.2 pounds, and have complex medical conditions.
We invite their families to participate in Children's Long-Term Follow-Up Clinic program, with a dedicated multidisciplinary medical team that coordinates their care. Children's neonatal specialists conduct extensive testing and physical assessments to create personalized developmental plans for each child.
A detailed summary of the plan is then provided to the family and the child's primary health care provider. Moms and family members are encouraged to seek answers for their medical and developmental questions and to reach out to additional medical and community resources to support their child.
Children's Long-Term Follow-Up Clinic maintains the largest database of long-term neonatal patient outcomes in Minnesota. Each year, more than 700 tiny patients participate in the program. Their stories and progress are essential to continuing research and revolutionary treatment options.
